Lines and wrinkles: Does having oily skin delay premature wrinkles or aging?
Does having oily skin mean I’m unlikely to develop premature wrinkles? That is a question that lots of people ask. Well, the unequivocal answer is, “Maybe!”
Oily skin is the result of over-active sebaceous glands that generate a substance called sebum. Sebum is a natural, healthy skin moisturizer that helps to keep needed moisture locked into the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin. And, moist, well hydrated skin is, actually, less likely to wrinkle and age prematurely.
Most wrinkles as well as the visible indications of aging, however, aren’t the result of poor moisture and hydration levels:
As time passes, natural creases in your skin are created by repeated facial movements including laughing, frowning and puckering. Lots of people believe these wrinkles add character along with a “lived-in” look to their faces. Other people will do almost anything to eliminate these wrinkles that form about the eyes and mouth area
Additionally, as you age, your body begins to slow the production of collagen and elastin. These proteins support healthy skin, giving it strength and resilience. Degradation of collagen and elastin causes your skin to wrinkle and look aged.

For a few people, premature aging and wrinkling may be inherited and simply inescapable.
There’s plenty you can do to delay the start of wrinkles and aging:
On the other hand, there is certainly plenty that you can do to delay the start of premature wrinkles and aging brought on by the proliferation of free radicals, molecules responsible for aging and tissue damage inside your body.
Both UVA and UVB radiation from the sun may cause the formation of free radicals that cause skin damage including wrinkles, skin conditions, and cancer. In the dermis, UV radiation breaks down collagen considerably faster than normal chronological aging. Ultra violet rays from the sun damage collagen fibers and cause the accumulation of abnormal elastin. Over exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun accounts for 90% of the symptoms of premature aging.
Smoking also promotes the formation of free radicals and speeds the aging process.
Oily skin types have their own problems:
While oily skin types may, indeed, enjoy an edge when it comes to retaining cell water and moisture, oily skin is just not nature’s way of staving off premature wrinkles. Additionally, oily skin is not without its downsides: Oily skin is typified by shiny skin, enlarged pores, blackheads and blemishes. If your sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, it can harden, block your pores and cause acne that is severe breakouts.
The bottom line: Naturally healthy skin is the best skin you can have! So, how can you get perfect skin?
Begin by implementing an every day skincare regimen. My own, personal skincare routine involves daily use of all natural bio-skin care products. These products from Biocutis contains a natural, biological serum that stimulates elastin and collagen production, renews damaged, dead and dying cells, and restores the ability of skin to maintain in water from within and provides true skin moisturizing.
If your skin is damaged by overexposure to the sun, or if your skin shows obvious indications of premature wrinkling and aging, Bio-skin rejuvination contains the same biological serum used in Bio-skin care, in addition to a natural Rumex extract, which reduces melanin hyper-pigmentation and a biomimetic peptide that inhibits the accumulation of melanin pigments.
